Matijn Garritsen is a Dutch 17 year old who spends most of his days like a normal teenager. However, on nights and weekends, he is known by another name: Martin Garrix. Although he is not yet 18, Martin Garrix already boasts an impressive four year career. His first introduction to music was learning to play guitar at age four. He was not an electronic music fan until he saw Tiesto perform at the 2004 Athens Olympics. That performance amazed and inspired him to buy his own DJ equipment and begin listening to trance. Just five years later, at age 13, Martin Garrix played his first set in a Dutch club. In 2012, the teen became the youngest person to ever receive the SLAM! FM DJ Talent Award of the Year. That year, Martin Garrix was also signed to Spinnin’ Records. The following year, his track, “Animals,” was a huge hit in more than 10 countries. Recently, Martin Garrix has played at Ultra Music Festival and collaborated with many well-known artists. He rose 36 places on this list since last year.
