The Growing Popularity of Gloving among California Ravers
Gloving is an art of performing a light extravaganza by using illuminated gloves. This art has become very popular and is being practiced by the DJs in electronic dance music. It is being lapped up by everyone who attends the EDM events. Gloving has gone much beyond the ravers as an art form and has become part of a legitimate dance form. You will even come across people gloving on television shows such as America’s Best Dance Crew.
Gloving is dominating the rave light shows in California. Hand in glove is considered to be the in thing now. To give an example, few months ago, at a rave function held at Beyond Wonderland near San Bernardino, the DJ gave a light show, wearing white gloves that were tight fitting. He may have looked like a butler that was ready to serve delicacies and high tea to people. But the way he moved his hands forward and backward across the faces of people had them go into a trance and gloving became the rave of the EDM community. It is known as gloving.
On the fingertips of the DJs, a blue light will spark and they will make that light dance. The light will jump like magic, bouncing from a fingertip to another; it will also jump in and out of the mouths of the DJs. It is a simple conjuring trick like sleight of hand which the DJs are learning to master. The lights will join in rapid succession until all their fingers stay illuminated like an octopus’ tendrils. It is one hell of a dazzling display.
Gloving has become the latest sensation on the light shows of electronic dance music. Though it has been an old tradition with electronic dance music, people who have been to festivals recently of electronic music may have definitely come across gloving. Previously, the DJs performed this kind of magic with glow sticks that were waved by them frantically. Of late, the delivery method of DJS in electronic dance music is only white gloves, sparkling white with light emitting diode lights on each fingertip.
Some of the deft DJs handling gloves have become top celebrities in the EDM community. Popular YouTube videos from top glovers like Skittles and Gummy have attracted more than two million hits each. Gloving has become such an important phenomenon at EDM shows that there are competitions being held like an International Gloving Championship. It was held about four months ago at the Pomona Fairplex. It attracted more than four hundred competitors and over two thousand gloving enthusiasts.
Gloving has become an art in itself with techniques becoming more complicated and light emitting diode technology advancing at a rapid pace. Gloving is, now, a precise technique and it has its influence from the hip-hop culture. It involves expert movements with the forearms and fingers, turning the fingers into right angles and shapes which resemble boxes. It is not at all reflective of a drug culture; instead, it is all about being artistic. Gloving is slowly evolving from a looked-down upon rave thing into something respectable as an art form.
