Tim Bergling, otherwise known by his stage name, Avicii, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1989. At age 18, Avicii began making tracks and releasing them on blogs. The same year, he was signed by the label Dejfitts Plays and met considerable local success. He began collaborating with other well-known DJs. By 2012, Avicii was very successful and became the first DJ to headline at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. The same year he played at Ultra in Miami. In 2013, Avicii released Levels, which was hugely successful and flung the DJ into the mainstream spotlight. In the same year, he was nominated for a Grammy and won MTV’s “Best Electronic” award. In 2014, Avicii collaborated with other artists to create the FIFA World Cup theme song. He has been featured on this list since 2012.
